Dimapur, August 16 (MExN): The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, organised an Independence Day ‘Tiranga Concert’, Rhythms of Freedom, at the NEZCC Stone Sculpture Garden Amphitheatre on August 15.
The concert sought to bring people together through music and culture while extending support to families affected by natural disasters across Nagaland. It also marked India’s 80th Independence Day under the themes of Har Ghar Tiranga and patriotism.
A press release from the NEZCC informed that the programme opened with the National Song, Vande Mataram, performed by Hoiying Walim, followed by the National Anthem by performers from Musik-A School, Dimapur.
Folk performances were also presented by the Dimasa Union and Marwari Samaj, Dimapur.
Welcoming the gathering, NEZCC Director Alobo Naga said the event sought to use culture to celebrate freedom, bring people together and extend support to those in need.
He said culture was about “people, compassion, community and building connections”, adding that the artistes were performing “not only to entertain us, but for a cause.”
The musical evening featured Kivika Achumi, Kekhrie Ringa, Lenen Jamir, Hentok Konyak and Sunep Lemtur, along with 5 Minutes Band and Colored Keys.
Community cultural troupes representing different communities of Dimapur, including the Muslim Council, Punjabi Samaj, Bhojpuri Samaj, Nepali Samaj, Gorkha Union, Bengali Samaj and Tibetan & Bhutia Welfare Association, also participated.
The programme concluded with a choral performance by Cantamus Choir, followed by performances by Nise Meruno and Tetso College Choir, and a grand finale by Abdon Mech. Tovika and Hikali Achumi anchored the programme, the release added.
Earlier, NEZCC Board of Governors member Vihuli Zhimomi formally relaunched the Children’s Park at the Stone Sculpture Garden for public access.
The event was attended by community leaders, cultural personalities, officials, former NEZCC officers and members of the public. The participation of various communities and cultural groups highlighted the evening’s theme of unity and cultural diversity.
The NEZCC said the initiative sought to make the Independence Day celebration more meaningful by combining cultural expression with solidarity and support for families affected by disasters across Nagaland.
