The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Central Youth Organization today accorded a befitting welcome to the newly elected team headed by Imchatoba Imchen as president.
Imchen, former president of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) took charge as president of NDPP CYO from the outgoing president Kelhouneizo Yhome.
In a felicitation programme held at NDPP HQ Kohima, NDPP Secretary General, Abu Metha recalled that it was during Imchen’s presidentship of NSF, the issue of superannuation of government service in Nagaland was taken up strongly and the same was resolved under his leadership and with the political will of the chief minister.
“For the first time in the history of the state, the government service was calculated not only on attainment of certain age but on attainment of the length of services,” he said adding that it has opened the doors for thousands of Naga youth to be gainfully employed in various positions in the state government.
Stating that NDPP is fortunate to have Imchen as president of NDPP CYO, Metha wished him successful tenure and also extended fullest support and solidarity “in our common endeavour to serve the Naga society.” Metha also lauded the invaluable contribution of the outgoing president Kelhouneizo Yhome, who has been elevated and promoted to the position of general secretary, NDPP Central Executive Board.
‘Change has come’
Metha reiterated that NDPP is a serious political party and with God’s blessing and support of the masses, the party within a short journey has taken tremendous strides.
“We are participating member of North East Democratic Alliance. We are contributing member to the National Democratic Alliance and Government of India. We are represented in the parliament to Lok Sabha and from 18 seats, today, we have more than 40 members in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly,” Metha said.
He said that NDPP had promised to the people in its manifesto with the slogan “Change is coming” during its campaign in 2018. “Change has come,” he said adding the party would continue work to change the Naga society for the better.
He said that the real leadership of the NDPP is not the people sitting in the dais but the people in the grassroots. “NDPP is a grassroots based regional party, regional in character having national outlook,” he said.
Stressing on the need to collaborate and partner with others, he said that its alliance with national party (BJP) is to ensure that development, progress, and economic growth come to Nagaland. “We are also a party that has an international outlook,” adding that the party focuses protection of environment and biodiversity, gender quality and women empowerment, climate change, which associate with international concern. We will continue to make sacrifice for the greater good of the Nagas,” he said.
In his speech, Imchen assured to give his best and uphold the principle of the party. He also assured that he would work to ensure that NDPP youth organization occupies as an asset to the party. Kelhouneizo Yhome assured to exercise his new assignment with more commitment and dedication.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by NDPP CYO Vice President, Vikato S Aye while welcome address was delivered by NDPP CYO working president Lhouvi Punyu. Vote of thanks was proposed by NDPP CYO vice president Vichosel Rhutso.
