Announce public rally on November 16
Mokokchung, November 3 (MExN): Civil society organisations in Mokokchung have announced a three-day relaxation of their ongoing agitation against the closure of the Chief Medical Officer's (CMO) office, but have cautioned that further action will follow a public rally scheduled for November 16.
The Ao Senden had begun an indefinite shutdown of the Mokokchung CMO’s office on October 21, 2026, after rejecting the Health and Family Welfare Department's response to its demands regarding staffing and infrastructure at Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH).
The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT), Watsu Mungdang, Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM), Ao Lanur Telungjem (ALT) and Ao Senden, held at Aor Kilem on Tuesday, according to a communication sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung.
On humanitarian grounds, the agitation will be relaxed from November 5 to 7 to allow child immunisation and medication, the organisations said.
They also resolved that all detachment and joining reports must be completed by November 13. The state government had earlier allowed 14 days to complete the handing and taking over, through a notification dated October 30, 2026.
“Afterwards, escalation of agitation will be executed after a public rally at Mokokchung Town on November 16,” the organisations said, without specifying the nature of the escalation.
The communication was signed by Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong, AWUMT president Lemasashi, Watsu Mungdang president Tianaro Tamir, AKM president Lanulemba Longchar and ALT vice president Tinukaba.
