Dimapur, July 18 (MExN): In an emergency Joint Meeting of the Executive Committee and the Liquor Prohibition Committee of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) on July 15, 2010, the apex Church body in the State has once again affirmed its strong objection to any move to life liquor prohibition. A public statement issued by REV. KUZIERANG THOU, NBCC President, REV. DR. L. ANJO KEIKUNG, General Secretary NBCC and REV. L. KARI LONGCHAR Chairman Liquor Prohibition Committee clearly stated that the movement for Prohibition of Liquor launched by the pioneering Church leaders will be upheld with all sincerity to protect our people from the evils of alcohol.
In view of this, the Government of Nagaland will be urged to implement the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act 1989 in letter and in spirit, and also to amend the loopholes in some of the Act. The Church statement has also appreciated the honest Government officials, especially from the Excise and Police departments, for their contributions in upholding the law.
It was further informed that there will be prayer and fasting held in all the Churches from 6:00 A.M to 12 noon on July 25, 2010; to pray to God to free our land from all social evils particularly to free our family, village, colony, town, society and State from the evils of liquor. Further, all the Churches are directed to launch out more aggressively the caring ministry for the alcoholics, drug addicts, HIVAIDS positive and other needy people with Christian love and action.
The statement also appealed to all the citizens to abide by the Prohibition Law and to do away from the use, consumption, sale and manufacture of liquor which is injurious to health (of the body, mind and soul), leading to family and social disorder.
