A joint effort has commenced for the restoration of the crucial Dikhu–Chuchuyimlang road section on August 24.
Mokokchung, August 24 (MExN): In a major initiative to restore critical connectivity following devastating natural calamities that completely isolated Longleng district, a dedicated joint effort has commenced for the restoration of the crucial Dikhu–Chuchuyimlang road section.
An update received here stated that prior to the commencement of work, an official delegation comprising the Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, W Manpai Phom, Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC) led by President YB Angam Phom, and LEMSACHENLOK team led by Team Leader Dr Y Nuklu Phom, visited and held a consultative meeting with the Chuchuyimlang Village Council on August 24.
Given the total blockage of existing routes and the urgent need for an alternative access line, the delegation proposed the immediate joint restoration of the road. The Chuchuyimlang Village Council (CVC) welcomed the proposal and extended their complete cooperation for the collective cause.
Notably, this historic road, originally constructed by the forefathers of Chuchuyimlang Village, Mokokchung district has been sustained and maintained over the decades by the CVC through self-reliance, without any financial or logistical assistance from the government. Following the meeting, a solemn prayer programme was conducted today at Dikhu Bridge to seek blessings for the safety and swift execution of the restoration project.
The prayer and restoration event was led by Dr Y Nuklu Phom. Delivering short speeches during the occasion, DC Longleng W Manpai Phom, highlighted the urgency of restoring access and praised the inter-district unity. Key leaders from neighboring administrative and traditional bodies including the Chairman of CVC, President of Langpangkong Tzükong Mungdang (LTM), Chairman of Unger Village Council, and President of PPC also addressed the gathering, expressing solidarity and shared responsibility in facilitating seamless movement.
Once restored, the Dikhu–Chuchuyimlang stretch will serve as an essential lifeline for the people of Longleng, providing a significantly shorter route for commuters traveling toward Kohima and ensuring the steady flow of essential supplies and emergency services.
