DIMAPUR, MARch 6 (MExN): In his speech on the Railway Budget, Nagaland MP W Wangyuh Konyak raised his voice for the improvement of railways in Nagaland. Speaking at the Lok Sabha, Wangyuh requested Union Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav to perk up the Dimapur Railway Station with all the required facilities. Calling for the immediate resumption of the Amguri- Tuli train service with extension up to the Tuli Paper Mill, he said that the construction of a new line between Dimapur and Kohima should be included in the 2006-07 Budget. Similarly, he asked for the revival of the historic Simalguri (Assam) to Naganimora Rail Service.
Citing that postal problems are faced by people in remote areas of the region, the MP called for the need to allow a three-year extension for candidates of the Eastern States seeking recruitment in the Railways Department.
Unhappy over the fact that from the North East only the Guwahati- Darbhanga line is among the 55 new trains mentioned in the Budget, Wangyuh said, “It clearly shows that the Railway Ministry and the honourable Minister are not taking the development of Railways in the North- Eastern Region seriously.”
Reminding the House of the gruesome Dimapur blasts, the MP said more facilities are required in the Railway Station. Since the Dimapur Railway Station is the only one in Nagaland, it should be improved, he said.
“I want that a clear explanation should be given to me as to when the Tuli Railway Station will be extended to the Tuli Paper Mill,” he further said.
