Yongshei and Yachem villages hold historic peace meet
Longleng, March 15 (MExN): In a historic development, the Yongshei and Yachem villages “ended their old traditional conflict” by holding a joint peace meet at Yongshei village, Longleng on March 11.
According to a DIPR report, the peace meet initiated by the two village councils was aimed to establish cordial relationships and foster the spirit of oneness between Yongshei and Yachem villages. It was attended by the people from both the villages, the DIPR report stated.
Addressing the peace meet, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland S Pangnyu Phom stated that peace can be achieved only when all come and work together and stay humble. He asserted that if this peace meet is not taken seriously and whole heartedly, it will go in vain. Therefore, the Minister encouraged the people to work hard with sincerity and uphold the meet in the right direction for the welfare of the people. He thanked the village councils and the people involved for taking such a bold step with Christian spirit.
The Deputy Commissioner, Longleng M Shayung Phom encouraged the people of both the villages to stay united and bear the spirit of oneness at all times where ever they are.
Exhorting the gathering, Executive Secretary of Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA), Tialemba Phom said, “Peace can be achieved only when we forgive and forget each other.” He appealed to both the villagers to uphold the peace meet in true spirit of Christianity.
Deputy Director (Horti), C Phupom Phom spoke on the significance of peace. Others who spoke on the occasion were Sangti, Head Barrick Yachem village, Hamnyei, former council chairman Yongshei village and L Bu-an Phom, President Yongshei citizens.
A special prayer of peace for both the village was conducted by C Hamba Nemdakly, senior Pastor Phom Baptist Attoi, Dimapur.
As a sign of unity for peace, Holy Bible was exchanged between the two village representatives. Rev Adai, Pastor Yachem Baptist Church, Attoi and Issac Keikung, pastor Yongshei Baptist Church, Attoi led the exchange.
Earlier, the programme was moderated by Henuh and Hongla, Associated Pastor Women, Yongshei and Yachem; invocation by Issac Keikung YBCA; welcome address by B Nokthai chairman Yongshei village council; special number by Yachem students union, Yongshei students union, Yongshei Attoi choir; special prayer was performed by Rev TI Lakba, pastor, Noksosang Baptist Attoi. It concluded with a mass benediction.
