INSPIRE Awards-MANAK: One from Nagaland among India’s 60 best

Kohima, December 14 (MExN): Lanuchetla Jamir, of Jubilee Memorial School, Mokokchung was among the top 60 students, who were conferred awards in the 8th National Level Exhibition and Project Competition-2021 (NLEPC) of the INSPIRE Awards–MANAK.

Lanuchetla was among the 14 from the North East States, who featured in the 60 best awardees list. 

The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research' (INSPIRE) scheme is one of the flagship programmes of Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India and The INSPIRE Awards - MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspirations and Knowledge) is executed by the Department with National Innovation Foundation – India (NIF), an autonomous body of DST, aimed at motivating students in studying in classes 6 to 10.

The objective of the scheme is to target one million original ideas/innovations rooted in science and societal applications to foster a culture of creativity and innovative thinking among school children, as per a DST statement.  

According to press release from SCERT, the NLEPC for 2021 was organised virtually on the 4-8 September 2021 and results were declared virtually.



North East recipients of the INSPIRE Awards MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge)

However, the NIF organised a meeting of the awardees of the 8 National Level Exhibition and Project Competition (NLEPC) from North East region at Guwahati on December 6.

The meeting was organised to hand over the awards to the awardees and to further discuss their project.

Lanuchetla along with her father Temjenliba Jamir, her teacher guide Sentilong Amer and   Daniel Thong Seb, State Nodal Officer of INSPIRE Awards- MANAK, State Council of Educational Research and Training, (SCERT), Nagaland attended the meeting. 

As per the release, initially the State Level Exhibition and Project Competition forNagaland was held at SCERT Kohima March 16, 2020 and later five participants were selected to participate at the 8th NLEPC Virtually.

At the time of submission,  Lanuchetla was studying in Class 9 at JMC, Mokokchung but presently, she is studying at Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, it said. 

The winning entry

Lanuchetla’s award-winning idea was "Rescue Me Kit" – which she came up to express her concern about bullying.
During the course of interaction at the meeting she agreed to partner with the NIF for development of prototype and for further promotion and marketing, the release said. 

She received a memento, certificate and a lap top from the DST and NIF India. The guide teacher, Sentilong received a certificate and memento while the District Nodal Officer (DEO) Mokokchung and State Nodal Officer also received a memento each.

The release further informed that pandemic situation improves,  Lanuchetla would be participating in a week-long Sakura Science Exchange Programme in Japan. 

The SCERT’s release further underscored that benefits of the INSPIRE programme are manifold. 

In other competitive programme the activities end with the receiving of award but here activities and opportunities open by winning the award, it said.

It further regretted that nomination of children at School level  in the State is very discouraging and  urged that all elementary schools, high schools and higher secondary schools, whether  Government or and Private should register and nominate children for the programme.

All school authority can log on to the website www.inspire.gov.in and register the schools to nominate children for the said awards, it said
