INTACH Nagaland organizes teachers’ workshop

DIMAPUR, MAY 16 (MExN): INTACH Nagaland Chapter organized a two day “Teachers Workshop on Heritage Education” at the Maple Tree School, Kashiram, on May 12 and 13. The workshop was conducted by Purnima Datt, Director, Heritage Education & Community Service (HECS) Division of INTACH, New Delhi, and assisted by Bashobi Banerjee, Research and Programme Co-ordinator, HECS.

Middle school teachers of several schools from Dimapur, Medziphema and Zuneboto participated in the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to instill heritage education and start Heritage Clubs in   schools as mandated by CBSE.

Purnima Datt impressed upon the participants that Heritage Education is not merely a recreation for students but an important part of their learning process to help them understand history and society, in order to inculcate values of respect for diversity and tolerance. She further extolled that while it is important to highlight aspects of national heritage, it is also important to bring local heritages into the purview of heritage education programmes.
