Integrated farming for successful integrated mission life

Dimapur, August 16 (MExN): Training on integrated farming was held at Bright Hope Nagaland farm situated at Aoyimkun, Dimapur starting from Saturday, August 13. Seventeen Community Development Workers, thirteen from Andhra Pradesh and four from Assam participated in the training which was initiated by The Council of Baptist Churches in Northeast India (CBCNEI) in collaboration with Asian Rural Life Development Foundation (ARLDF).
Bright Hope Nagaland is initiating farm development as a mode to bring change to local communities. On August 13, theory session was held on topics covering piggery, poultry, and goat rearing. The resource persons for the theory session were Dr. Sunep Imchen and Dr. Achila, who are also board members of Bright Hope Nagaland. On August 15, practical session was held under the guidance of Rev. Subong Aier.
Bright Hope Nagaland introduces concept of development though farming
Dr. Jolly, general secretary, CBCNI who was present during the training, shared that the aim of the training is for the mission workers to be equipped with farming skills which can be beneficial for themselves and also to the ministry, at large.  He says that the concept of integrated mission is a new approach to mission. Since missionaries has always been opposed and prosecuted for their teachings, this is one way for the missionaries to develop in their physical as well as holistic mission, he shares. He also feels that through these, the community will also benefit at large. Commenting on the training held at Aoyimkum, he says, “This training is just a model. Our vision is very big and we aim to impart knowledge and skills on chicken rearing, ducks, pigs, fishery, and goat rearing in future also.”
Brinjal, team leader, ARDLF states that the foundation is intent on the development of community. He also emphasizes on Sloping Area Land technology (SALT) stating that the aim is to make people realize that even slope terrain is good for various production and not only flat land . ARLDF India is a part of the ARLDF International, based in Guwahati, Assam. It aims to facilitate true transformation in India and by implementing a development process that leads to strong, healthy communities who influence and impact their neighbors. The programs include Drinking Water, Sloping Area Land Technology (SALT), Food Always in the Home (FAITH), and Micro-finance (SHGs).

Introduced in the year 2006, the society was eventually registered under the government of India on 2009. BHN consists of seven board members, a treasurer, and a legal consultant. The three most important emphasis of BHN is to believe in Lord Jesus Christ, to work hard, and to be honest. It is a society that strives towards the economic development of the people.
Till date, BHN has held trainings for SHGs from various districts and Churches, educated unemployed youth, and also held trainings in theological Colleges. Rev Subong Aier, Director of BHN stated that it took a lot to develop this ministry. He shares that it took a strong board and good technical know-how’s by resource persons for the ministry to be developed. He admits that it was not an easy and successful start at the beginning as people did not understand the concept that BHN was trying to bring about. “But slowly people are coming to know about this Ministry,” he says.
 
Objectives of Bright Hope Nagaland
 
•    To establish an intensive, holistic, profitable farming unit suitable for the demonstrating best practices which will promote change. And to provide training and education and support among the poorer families of Nagaland. 
•    To create awareness on unhygienic practices and encourage activities which will enhance and improve health of the people. People will be made aware of activities that prevent common diseases.
•    To create the rural and backward masses to do relief and rehabilitation work during natural calamities of flood, draught, famine, fire, earthquake and epidemic etc
•    To create a platform for sharing the gospel and encourage Christians.
