Initially when Kezocha town in Kohima district was surveyed for developmental activities, it was observed that a large area of the administrative set up was still used for agricultural purpose and the rest was found to be jungles not fit for habitation.

A small portion developed during that period was unutilized for housing the government and private residential requirement, Er Kevide Nakhro, Additional Chief Engineer, Urban Engineering Wing informed during the inaugural programme of the Integrated Housing & Slum Development Project at Kezocha town under Kohima district on March 17.

During the process of a thorough reconnaissance survey, it was found, that most of the people resided in Kutcha houses.

Nagaland being a high rainfall area, these Kutcha houses were not durable and prone to roof leakages requiring a lot of maintenance during the rainy season. It was also observed that most of the families are BPL families who could not afford to construct proper house with basic amenities like toilets, water supply, electrification etc.

Therefore, it was proposed to construct dwelling units with basic amenities to improve the living condition of poorest of the poor families settled at Kezocha town, said Er Nakhro.

This is funded under 10% lumpsum scheme for North Eastern states including Sikkim, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (erstwhile Ministry of Housing and Poverty Alleviation) in the year 2010 with total project cost of Rs.498.92 lakh (NPWD SOR 2013). Funding pattern is 90 (Central Share): 10 (State Share). Central share: Rs 449.03 lakh and state share Rs 49.89 lakh.

The contractor was M/S T. Tachu & Co.

The scheme includes one Community Hall (Plinth area: 249.48 sqm with 200 sitting capacity, 70 numbers of dwelling units in two blocks (North & South - 35 unit each) having 26.72 sqm plinth area per dwelling unit with one Common Room, Bedroom, 1 Kitchen, Toilet & bath.

The project also involved construction of approach road, footpath, drainage, water supply, electrification and public toilets.
