Chümoukedima, May 27 (MExN): The Inter-School Pre-Subroto Cup International Football Tournament Zone-2 for U-17 boys and girls commenced at Chümoukedima Football Stadium on May 27.
The tournament is being organised by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports in collaboration with the Chümoukedima District Football Association (CDFA).
The opening programme was chaired by CDFA president Sedevikho T Angami, while the invocation was pronounced by sports coach Khriezotuonuo Theünuo.
District Youth Resources and Sports Officer, Chümoukedima, Wutsutho delivered the welcome and keynote address and said the tournament aims to provide a platform for young footballers to showcase their talents and foster sportsmanship, discipline and unity among students.
He encouraged the players to compete with dedication, sincerity and respect for one another and appreciated the support extended by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports and the CDFA in organising the event successfully.
Wutsutho also expressed hope that the tournament would help identify promising talents who would represent Zone-2 at the state-level tournament in Kohima.
SDO (C) Chümoukedima Shreyansee Jain, IAS, attended the programme as the special guest and officially declared the tournament open.
She encouraged the players to uphold discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the tournament and urged the young athletes to give their best on the field.
Jain said such sporting events provide an important platform for nurturing talent, building confidence and promoting unity among students from different districts. She also conveyed her best wishes to all participating teams for a successful and competitive tournament.
Altogether, 17 schools in the U-17 boys category and four schools in the U-17 girls category from Dimapur, Niuland, Peren and Chümoukedima districts are participating in the tournament.
The finalist schools from both categories will represent Zone-2 at the State-Level Inter-School Pre-Subroto Cup Tournament to be held at IG Stadium, Kohima, in June.
