Dimapur, October 1 (MExN): The International Day of Older Persons was observed across Nagaland under the theme ‘The Resilience and contributions of Older Women’ on October 1.
Mokokchung: At Ongpangkong Salang, Mokokchung, it was organized by the District Welfare Office in collaboration with the office of Chief Medical Officer Mokokchung.
Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS addressed the occasion as special guests. Distinguished Senior Citizen Award was presented to Dr Tiameren Ao and Temsula Lemtur. Token distribution of Assistive devices under RVY scheme was given away to the beneficiaries.
The welcome address was delivered by Hebou Rio, District Welfare Officer, Mokokchung while a short speech encouraging the senior participants was shared by Dr Limanaro, DPO (NCD) Mokokchung. A vote of thanks was proposed by Imliyanger, CDPO Kubolong. A medical camp was also held for the Elderly to mark the occasion.
Tuensang: In Tuensang, the DC Kumar Ramnikant was the special guest at the celebration in Town Hall. It was organized by District Welfare Department Tuensang and the Health and Family welfare department conducted a special health camp while the DLSA and Judicial Magistrate conducted free legal advice for the older person and new registration for the Adhaar Card was also conducted on the spot.
T Amenla Sangtam was awarded oldest lady and Longkhangba Yimkhiung was awarded oldest man in the programme.
Cheliam Khiamniungan, Secretary DSLA cum Judicial Magistrate First Class Tuensang presented awareness on ‘Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act 2007.’ Impongsoted, President UTELU spoke on the idea of making ID card for senior citizens and requested the DC for the allotment of one office cabin for UTELU on completion of the newly constructed DC Office Building.
BYE Khiamniungan Baptist Church Tuensang presented a special number while Rev Sangkap Pastor Tuensang Town Baptist Lashong said a special prayer for the older people. Moa Longkumer, District Welfare Officer Tuensang said welcome note, Thsapongcham, Sangtam Inspector DWO gave the vote of thanks and Temjenjungshi Sangtam chaired the programme.
Peren: Addressing the occasion at GB’s Hall, Peren Town as special guest, ADC Peren, Keyirangding Hegui appreciated the elderly people for their contribution in imparting social values which is much needed for the younger generation.
During the programme, Dineu Ndang (85 years) and Wepenyi-U Ndang (90 years) from Peren district were awarded by the Social Welfare Department in recognition of their contribution to society.
The programme began with an invocation prayer said by AWW, Akangna, followed by a special song presented by Anganwadi Workers & Helpers, Peren project, while a message on life experiences was shared by, ApeunaIheilung.
The programme was chaired by DPO/DWO Peren, Tsungrosongla, while vote of thanks was proposed by CDPO Tening, Yanbeni.
Meluri: In Meluri it was organized by the Meluri Village Council. Chülekhu Nyusou, VCM Meluri urged the older people to live beautiful and contented lives and to show a good example to the younger generations.
Altogether, there are 155 older persons in the Meluri area including 82 males & 73 females. Among the 155 older persons there are 92 octogenarians, 42 males and 50 females, and 24 nonagenarians, 7 Males and 17 Females.
Rev T Kachüsie Phoji pronounced the invocation and benediction by Rev K Rüsütho Nyuthe. The programme was chaired by Nyomatho VDB Secretary, Meluri Village council.
The programme was attended by VCMs of Meluri and well-wishers including 110 older persons among the total 155 older persons in the Meluri area.
Longleng: In Longleng, the day was observed at PBCA Hall Longleng with Dharam Raj, IAS Deputy Commissioner Longleng as a special guest.
CDPO & i/c DWO Longleng, T Longlang Luckpan delivered the welcome address followed by an award presentation for senior citizens for 2021-2022 to Nyangpen Phom from Tangha village and Pukyung Phom from Hukpang village.
Elung Phom, President Longleng District Senior Citizens Forum delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was chaired by A Afen Phom.
