DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 21 (MExN): The International University, Dimapur, will launch a one-year Diploma in School Counselling from next month in line with the Nagaland government’s policy of appointing one male and one female counsellor in every school in the state.
Prof Zavise Rume, Director of Vocational Education at the university, said the initiative seeks to prepare a competent cadre of school counsellors to strengthen young minds across schools. He said the programme would address the growing need for emotional, psychological and academic support among students.
Endorsing the initiative, newly appointed Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dipak K. Shukla said the diploma has been designed as a rigorous, practice-oriented course to equip aspiring counsellors with skills in child psychology, educational guidance, mental health and school-based intervention strategies.
Registrar Dr. Roopam Bachhil said the university has made faculty and infrastructural arrangements for the programme, with regular, adjunct and visiting experts on board to ensure quality training. He expressed confidence that graduates of the diploma would contribute meaningfully as school counsellors. The diploma will be offered at the university’s 7th Mile campus in Dimapur.
