Inwent to survey Nagaland’s adaptability to Climate Change

Climate Change in Nagaland has caused massive landslides, heavy rainfall has affected farmers. A team of Inwent - Capacity Building International, Germany, (a non-profit organization with worldwide operations dedicated to human resource development, advanced training, and dialogue), commissioned by the German Federal Government, the German business sector, has landed in Nagaland and will be staying for five days to survey where exactly Nagaland stands in adaptation to Climate Change.

The group is on a mission to Sikkim, Meghalaya and Nagaland in regard to Climate Change.

Interacting with media persons, programme co-coordinator, Inwent, Dr. Neeraj Khera, said they are on a mission to know how Naga Citizens are confronting the climate change and how much it has impact especially on the farmers.

She disclosed that they had several meeting with the officers in various district and felt the need of educating the people through trainings. “We felt, there is an urgent need, to give technical trainings to the people of Nagaland to keep safe from Climate Change”, said Neeraj.Directing the media to act upon, in spreading the awareness of Climate Change, she expressed her willingness to assist if Nagaland Government is showing positive response as support should come from the government and private sectors to have a balance eco-system. “Since 90% of the population is depending on farming, and the climate change is directly affecting the farmers, we need to underline the co-opting strategies to the people”, commented Neeraj. She proposed the training to be held April 2011, that includes the media fraternity.

The team is also scheduled to have a meeting tomorrow with the Head of Departments at Kohima before their departure on September 15.
