Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) launched the company’s latest high octane premium petrol named ‘XP-95’ in the state of Nagaland on Thursday.

The enhanced motor spirit XP-95 was launched here at IOCL Dimapur Depot, Kevijau Colony, in the presence of Director, Food & Civil Supplies, Lovitoly Sema.

Briefing media persons before the launch, the DGM of IOCL Dimapur Depot, Huwuto Sema, said XP-95 is branded high octane petrol launched by IOCL across the country from May 1 this year.

The DGM informed that after Assam, Nagaland is the second state in the North East Region to launch the upgraded premium fuel.

Huwuto said regular petrol presently available in the market is rated at 91 octane whereas the newly launched XP-95 is rated at 95 octane.

“The introduction of XP-95 gasoline in the market is a long-time demand of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) in order to maintain Corporate Fuel Average Economy norms”, he said.

The DGM, Dimapur Depot, also said that with the monumental challenge of switching to low-sulphur fuels during the transition from BS-IV to BS-VI, the oil industry had to stick to 91 octane.

Subsequently, after rolling out of BS-VI products throughout the country, IOCL came up with its higher octane product, Huwuto added.

On the price of the new fuel, the DGM said that as on date XP-95 is just Rs. 0.51 (51 paise) costlier than MS xtra premium.

Lovitoly in her address said the introduction of XP-95 would not only help the auto manufacturers to meet upcoming emission standards but also benefit vehicle owners in the form of enhanced engine performance and extra mileage.

She also said the introduction on ethanol based petrol would benefit farmers in the long run as they would find a huge market to sell their raw material (like sugarcane), which are used to produce ethanol.

Further, another advantage of XP-95 is that the fuel is more ecological and environmentally friendly.

The F&CS Director urged IOCL officials to carry out campaigns in order to sensitize the general public on the benefits and advantages of XP-95 petrol.
