JAC temporarily suspends indefinite bandh along NH-2

DIMAPUR, JUNE 19 (MExN): The indefinite bandh called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Wokha village on the issue of road widening of NH-2 has been temporarily suspended after a meeting was held at the DC conference hall with Executive Engineer, PWD (NH) Kohima, EE Power, representatives of Lotha Hoho, TTC Infra India, village council of Wokha and Longsa, convenor, JAC, Wokha Village Youth Organization, Wokha Village Elders’ Forum and Land Owners Union Wokha. 

A press release issued by the JAC-WVYO informed that the bandh was called off on the written assurances given by DC Wokha that all the 106 locations marked/identified during the joint verification will be totally evicted within 15 (fifteen) days after which normal works would be allowed to start. 

According to the meeting minutes of the June 19 meeting, the TTC Infra India also rectification works on shortcomings highlighted in the verification report would be immediately initiated. 

The District Administration briefed the house that all encroachment issues whenever brought to notice by the department or other stake holders are being addressed promptly. Notices to 17 people have been issued since April 2023 and forcible eviction has also been carried out whenever necessary.

The meeting decided to set a time frame of 15 days for completion of the drive. The JAC along with Lotha Hoho, WVYO and LSU assured to provide all necessary support to the District Administration for removal of such structures.
