Jalukie Pungchi village formally recognized by Nagaland govt

‘Jalukie Pungchi has potential to become an urban settlement very soon,’ says TR Zeliang 

Peren, January 21 (MExN): Jalukie Pungchi village under Peren district was inaugurated with Leader of Opposition NLA, TR Zeliang as the special guest at Jalukie Pungchi chairman’s resident on January 21. The village established on October 22, 2012 was recognized by the Government of Nagaland on October 12, 2017.

According to a DIPR report, Zeliang in his inaugural speech stated that Jalukie Pungchi is amongst the largest in terms of area amongst the other Jalukie villages and has the potential to become like an urban settlement very soon.

He mentioned that Jalukie valley is blessed with the best and most fertile land in Nagaland and regarded as the ‘Rice Bowl of Nagaland.’ Therefore, he appealed to the people to take up sustainable farming and plantation which can yield more income. Stating that the village is located in the foothill of Peren district, he encouraged the village authority to make master plan in order to make it a model village with a well-planned roads, drainage etc.

Stating that government jobs are scarce, Zeliang said, “we must look for alternative source of income.” He encouraged the Jalukie valley people to work hard and smart so that the valley can be the next Punjab of Nagaland which can hold the economy of the State. Zeliang urged the land owners not to sell their lands for short term relief instead protect and preserve for generations to come.

Earlier, the special guest upon his arrival unveiled the monolith at Peren district welcome gate while dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Rev Ngimrai.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Albert N Hau and Icamceu N Hau, welcome address was proposed by Jalukie Pungchi Chairman, Hainlang and short speeches were also delivered by ADC Jalukie, Dr Tinojongshi Chang and Kelie Zeliang. 

Other highlights of the programme included song presentation by Nangkamlak Pame, folk dance by Jalukie Students' Union and special dance by Gorkha Baptist Church Fellowship.
