The 26th Aonglenden ACCC held a general meeting today and unanimously resolved to field veteran Congress politician and former Chief Minister, Dr SC Jamir from the constituency in the forthcoming state assembly election scheduled to be held on February 23, 2013.
Speaking with The Morung Express at his private residence this evening, Dr SC Jamir said that he wanted to take rest but the people were asking him to contest the election and he decided to accept the responsibility, since ‘we cannot run away from our responsibilities’.
On being asked about the party manifestoes, Dr Jamir said that the Congress party is yet to draft the manifestos and it will be notified later. On the question of issuing party tickets, Dr Jamir said that the tickets will be issued to all the sitting MLAs, and for those which don’t have a non-Congress sitting MLA, the opinion of the local organization (ACCC) will be taken into consideration and the ticket issued “purely based on winability” of the candidate.
Dr Jamir said that this time round the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) will issue the ticket after studying the candidatures put forth by the local organizations. “I have been advising to finalize all the tickets in Nagaland only. Why should we go to Delhi (for asking for tickets)? Lot of politicians go to Delhi asking for tickets which create a lot of time and money also,” the veteran politician and one of the most respected Congress leader maintained.
On being asked what the Congress party will do if it is elected to power, Dr Jamir said that the party shall restore peace and normalcy in the state, without which nothing can go well. He said that the people are flouting the rules and there is no governance in the state under the present government. He assured that the Congress party will ensure peace and normalcy through good governance and give a clean, transparent and responsible government to the people.
Besides, Dr Jamir also said that the Congress party if voted to power will ‘prepare a special economic blueprint’ one that is ‘need-based’ and use the resources and funds allocated by the central government at the shortest possible time for better development.
Alleging, that large amounts of funds are going into individuals pockets instead of being used for development, Dr Jamir said that such practices will not be allowed.
Nonetheless, Dr Jamir expressed happiness that the elections would be held in a very short notice since the candidates will spend less, since elections to the Naga people means, festivity.
It may be noted here that Dr Jamir will be contesting in his home constituency, 26thAonglenden A/C where NPF MLA Toshipokba is presently representing the Constituency.
