Joint Council Forum on NH 702A appeal authorities

Dimapur, December 18 (MExN): With regard to the ongoing road construction under IQRP of the National Highway 702A (Chozuba to Phek), the Joint Council Forum of Thüvopisü, Rünguzu and Rünguzu Nasa has appealed authorities to ensure that the development works are not disrupted.

A press release issued by the Forum’s Convenor Vesathu Dozo, Member Secretary Kuto Ringa and Member Vesanu Dozo on Friday stated that the three villages recently held a consultative meeting passed several resolutions pertaining to the project.

Stating that the road was left neglected ever since it was first constructed during the British Administration, the forum said that the said road has served as a lifeline for the three villages as well as the people of Chozuba division as it connects the area with the Phek district headquarter.

The said road reduces the distance from Phek headquarters to Kohima by 37 kms as compared to the Pfutsero route, it pointed out while welcoming the road development project which, it said, has come after a lapse of more than 45 years.

The Joint Council Forum would like to request the authorities to ensure that the works do not deviate from work specifications. “In any case, if any unsolicited elements try to halt or circumvent the development works through coercion or threats in order to siphon funds, the Joint Council Forum will not hesitate to lodge complaints and take legal action against those involved,” the release stated.

The forum further implored the authorities to issue proper guidelines to the contracting party/parties to strictly adhere to work specifications and instruct field staff to properly monitor and supervise the road construction.

It assured its full cooperation and support to the concerned authority along with the assertion that the forum would extend all help possible whenever necessary.
