DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 18 (MExN): Joint raids are to be conducted in Dimapur to check for illegal power tapping and power theft.

This was decided during a meeting between the State level special team for checking power theft, improvement of revenue collection and ensuring effective management of power system in Dimapur district, officers of Power Department and representatives of the district administration and district police held on October 18.

In the meeting, it was decided that besides regular raids and disconnection drives conducted by department as a special drive, joint raids would be conducted along with district administration and police for illegal power tapping/power theft and disconnection drive for non-payment of electricity bills.

In this connection, the team leader, Sara S Jamir, NCS, Joint Secretary, Power appealed to all the village authorities, GBs, colony leaders and public to extend their support in checking the menace of power theft in their wards, colony and villages.

She cited power theft as one reason for overloading of transformers resulting in transformer failures. Jamir was optimistic that with support of the public, the menace of power theft could be checked and monitored which would ultimately improve stability of power supply in Dimapur.
