JOSE-Festivporium 2026 celebrates unity in diversity at St Joseph University

Chümoukedima, February 20 (MExN): The 3rd JOSE-Festivporium 2026, themed “One Festival, A Tapestry of Cultures,” commenced with enthusiasm and colour at St Joseph University (SJU) Ground on Friday, bringing together students, faculty members and invited dignitaries in a celebration of unity in diversity.

The two-day festival, organised by the Students’ Council of St Joseph University and powered by Mahendra’s, began with the arrival of the chief guest and ceremonial unfurling of the Students’ Council flag. The programme was chaired by Jonglio N, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics.

Rev Fr Arockia Sezhian, Campus Manager, delivered the invocation, followed by welcome addresses from Prof Charles Mhonthung, Dean of Student Affairs, and Gobind Pradhan, President of the Students’ Council. Greetings were also conveyed by student leaders representing major community organisations, who highlighted the importance of cultural harmony among the youth.

Vice-Chancellor Dr D Gnanadurai, in his exhortation, encouraged students to utilise such platforms to strengthen mutual respect and understanding across cultures. Lovungi Ezung, proprietor and title sponsor, spoke on the role of educational initiatives in empowering young minds.

The inaugural session featured a special appearance by Lungbui of the Department of Political Science and a drama performance staged by the Department of History.

Alongdi Sangtam, General Secretary of the Students’ Council, presented a report outlining student activities and future initiatives. Zasivikho Zakiesato, President of the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation, commended the institution for nurturing responsible citizens through academic and cultural engagement.

Delivering the keynote address, chief guest Aotula T Imchen, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, urged students to cultivate persistence, perseverance, resilience and hard work as guiding principles for success. She emphasised that challenges serve as stepping stones to achievement and encouraged the youth to remain determined and disciplined in their pursuits, noting that strong character and consistent effort are essential for both personal growth and nation-building.

The formal programme concluded with a benediction by Alen Awomi, Assistant Cultural Secretary.

The informal session, hosted by Hikivi Yepthomi and Amarpali Thapa, featured vibrant folk dances, traditional songs, tug-of-war contests and top-spinning games, reflecting the festival’s spirit of cultural celebration.

The festivities will continue on February 21 with more performances and activities aimed at strengthening bonds among students from diverse backgrounds.
