Kohima, February 3 (MExN): Following Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s intervention on February 1, the Jotsoma Youth Organisation (JYO) has withdrawn its earlier ultimatum to the state government, the Jotsoma Village Council (JVC) informed on Wednesday.
Earlier on December 18, 2020, the JYO had cited the State government’s failure to honor its 45 year old agreement, and threatened to stop water supply to Kohima, if the matter was not resolved by January 31, 2021. Subsequently, a meeting was held with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), School Education Department and Jotsoma Village representatives at the Chief Minister’s residential office in Kohima on February 1.
In this regard, the JVC expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for “understanding the gravity of the situation” and intervening in the impasse. It said that the CM had reassured that the Government Higher Secondary School, Jotsoma would be developed with additional buildings for class rooms and other infrastructure within the coming financial year.
“He further committed to create 12 Gr-IV posts to be reserved for the villagers and share the revenue generated through water supply with the Village,” it added.
The council also recounted the series of events that led up to an agreement between the state government and the people of Jotsoma 45 years ago, and the situations that necessitated the JYO’s ultimatum.
While expressing gratitude to the CM and local MLA Keneizhakho Nakhro, it also acknowledged the JYO for taking up the issue for the betterment of the society. The JVC hopes that the general public too will appreciate the hardship and sacrifices, the villagers made for the betterment of the society over the years, it added.
