Dimapur, August 20 (MExN): The Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industries (KCCI) has demanded disciplinary action against Kohima police personnel who allegedly committed excesses against business establishment and public during yesterday’s melee with agitating ad-hoc teachers in Kohima. The KCCI met with the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Superintendent of Police of Kohima, and the Additional Deputy Commissioner today.
“However, the meeting proved to be inconclusive,” a note from the KCCI informed. “The KCCI acknowledges the apology tendered by the officials nonetheless, the business community stands firm on the demands as submitted in the memorandum.”
The KCCI said that “disciplinary action should be taken against the erring police personnel for excessive abuse and trauma caused to the innocent traders and the public at large.”
The KCCI empathized with “the pressure under which the police personnel perform on the line
of duty” but condemned what it called the highhandedness of the police. “The KCCI requests the public to bear with the business community in the event of a failure of dialogue with the government and proceeds with the closure of all business activity,” the organization stated.
