The District Sports office in association with the Superintendent of Police, Wokha, hosted the inauguration ceremony of the Khelo India Centre for Boxing at the Police Reserve, DEF Wokha on July 18. The centre was officially inaugurated by MLA YM Humtsoe.

MLA YM Humtsoe expressed his deep appreciation to the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for the inauguration of a new boxing center in Wokha. Addressing the gathering, Humtsoe praised the initiative and assured to support and promote the center. He emphasized that he would use every opportunity during his tenure as MLA to enhance the center and attract participants from other districts, ensuring its growth and success.

He encouraged the youth to view sports not just as a hobby but as a viable career path alongside traditional government jobs, highlighting that sports professionals can enjoy some of the highest salaries and build fulfilling careers.

He also noted Wokha’s abundant sporting talent and pointed out the expanding range of sports disciplines available. He urged individuals to actively participate in these sports, stressing the importance of excelling in their chosen games.

In closing, Humtsoe motivated the young audience to fully utilize the boxing center, with the goal of achieving excellence and bringing honor to the district.

In her brief address, Aotula Imchen, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Wokha, in her short speech, emphasised the key aspects of the event. She emphasised that every individual has unique capabilities, and what is needed is the opportunity to develop and refine these skills. She noted that the newly established boxing facilities present a valuable opportunity for the people of Wokha to enhance their talents and achieve their goals. Imchen encouraged the community to actively utilize these facilities, asserting that they offer not only a platform for personal growth but also a chance to excel in sports. She urged everyone to seize this opportunity to train, compete, and build a stronger, more vibrant sporting culture within the district.

Later, the event highlighted an exhibition boxing match between Johnny Lotha and Ejanthung Kikon, with Kuchohu Curha in charge and KIC Boxing’s coach overseeing the bout.

The event was chaired by K Libemo Jami, the District Youth Resource Officer, with an invocation led by Zuben Ngullie, Pastor of Police Baptist Church, Wokha. The chairperson delivered the welcome address.
