Dimapur, August 28 (MExN): Dimapur Police arrested two men, including an alleged deputy kilonser of the GPRN/NSCN (Kitovi), and seized five .303 rifles along with 90 rounds of ammunition from an auto-rickshaw in Dimapur district.
“Acting on credible information regarding the illegal possession and transportation of firearms, the Dimapur Police team conducted operation in the vicinity of Aoyimti village Dimapur,” Dy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/ PRO, Dimapur said in an official update.
During the operation at around 5:30 pm, the police team intercepted an auto rickshaw bearing registration NL07F6939 from Aoyimti village near the village cemetery.
The two occupants of the vehicle were identified as Ghotovi Yeptho, ss deputy kilonser of GPRN/NSCN (Kitovi), and driver Akhehoto Yepto, the police said.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of five .303 rifles with magazines and 90 rounds of .303 ammunition, the official said, adding that the duo failed to produce any documents authorising possession of the arms.
A case has been registered at the East Police Station under Section 25(1A) of the Arms Act read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Sections 7/8 of the Nagaland Security Regulation Act, the police said.
Further investigation is ongoing, police said, reiterating their commitment to curbing illegal possession, transportation and trafficking of arms and ammunition, and appealed to the public to share credible information on such activities.
