Honouring humanity in the time of pandemic, the Khuzama Baptist Church members sent over a thousand packs of food items to town dwellers in Kohima on Saturday morning.
The bundle of green vegetables, organic potatoes and rice reached more than 100 households in each colony despite lockdown restrictions across the state.
“The village also observing lockdown restrictions, and although all could not gather in one, we devised social media to spread the word among villagers to forage vegetables and forest products,” Church Pastor of KBC, Mhaphuvi Naleo while narrating about the initiative to The Morung Express.
Likewise, on Thursday and Friday, villagers engaged themselves in collecting, binding and packing the stuffs. Village grown potatoes and rice were added.
At the same time, our counterparts in Kohima town were given charge to inform their colony leaders to reach out to people in need. As such, we listed nine colonies where we sent 100 packets each.
The pastor expresses joy in sharing blessings with people in times of need observing that the village was richly blessed with forest products and at the point of time, green vegetables were abundant in our surroundings, fields and forests.
“Although we cannot give everybody, if we reach some people in town other than our own village members, then we can share a part of our blessings with them,” he notes.
A person on receiving the vegetables acknowledged the givers and added that it was longed for in this time of distress.
