The Kiphire District Planning Development Board (DPDB) resumed meetings on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Minister for Soil & Water Conservation, Geology & Mining V Kashiho Sangtam, after a gap of two months.

Concerns about the suspected COVID-19 case in the district were raised during the meeting. However, officials requested citizens not to panic or spread unconfirmed information as confirmatory results were yet to be received.

In this regard, Kiphire Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Shivam requested for all to maintain social distancing at all times and for strict implementation of all standard operating procedures (SOPs) as issued by the government.

The DC also advised officers and citizens to avoid traveling in and out of the district as far as possible.

Addressing the members, DPDB Chairman and Minister V Kashiho Sangtam lauded the District Administration, Police, Medical department, heads of departments (HoDs) and civil society organisations and all frontline workers for working hard in containing the virus.

He said that the only way to keep the virus at bay is to work together by observing SOPs and cooperating with the government so that there is no community spread.

Kashiho also urged the HoDs for proper implementation of public welfare schemes while adding that Kiphire being economically backward would benefit immensely if such schemes are implemented properly.

Further, the minister welcomed new members to the board and expressed hope that their posting in Kiphire will benefit the citizens. Requesting all officers to be in station at all times, he emphasized on their roles as officers as well as their responsibility to bring about positive changes in the society.

He also directed the medical department to compile data of all returnees and present the same in the next DPDB meeting so as to effectively manage and look out for their welfare.

Kiphire Chief Medical Officer Dr E Motsuthung meanwhile presented data on COVID-19 status in the district and informed that so far 486 returnees have been tested through TrueNat machine. Out of the total, he said 476 results have come out negative, while 2 patients are in COVID Care Center and 1 patient is in isolation at the COVID-19 Hospital Kiphire.
