Dimapur, March 27 (MExN): Kiphire Wildlife Division, Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Government of Nagaland organized five awareness programmes under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, at the Nature Learning Center (NLC), Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP), Dimapur.
NLC has been established in Nagaland in 2018 at Forest Office Complex, Dimapur, NZP, Dimapur and Botanical Gardens, Kohima.
A total of 30 students from Government Middle School, Aoyimti took part in the programme on March 12; 64 students of Government Middle School, Darogajanon on March 18; 81 students from Government Middle School, Purana Baazar ‘A’ on March 19; 68 students of Government Middle School, Sarbura, Ao Kashiram, Dimapur on March 25; and 105 students of Government Town Middle School, Dimapur on March 26.
A total of 423 participants were part of the programme which included the school students, staff from Office of the Chief Wildlife Warden, staff of NZP, staff of Kiphire Wildlife Division, Eco Warriors, Kiphire Wildlife Division and NZP.
Watisungla Amer, Range Forest Officer, NZP briefed the participants about the Zoo followed by an awareness programme by Kiphire Wildlife Division on ‘Nature Conservation.’ Wildlife quiz cum interactive awareness session was conducted for the students by Eco Warriors (a volunteer group of youth graduates under Kiphire Wildlife Division).
Students were allowed to experience the interactive smart info screens in the NLC which showcased flora and fauna from across the state. The interactive session was led by Onenjungshi, Wildlife Photographer, NZP. The participants were later taken around the park by Disurai, Forester I.
A press release stated that the programme was attended by Suman W M Sivachar IFS, DCF, O/o the Chief Wildlife Warden & Wildlife Warden, Kiphire, Prabhat Kumar IFS, Director Nagaland Zoological Park, Rama Shankar Prasad IFS, ACF, Dimapur Forest Division and members of CAN Youth during the different programmes.
