The residents of the Midland colony, Kohima observed 56th Midland Council Day on October 2 at Midland Council Hall.
Speaking on the occasion, Midland Council chairman Menuokholie Kire acknowledged the pioneers for their invaluable contributions in the formative year in 1970.
Midland is one of the oldest and the most peaceful colonies in Kohima town, he said.
Kire expressed happiness over the clearance of a decade old clogged cross drains problem along Box Cutting road and Kohima War Cemetery, following a joint effort by the district administration, PWD (NH), Midland colony and other stakeholders.
Stressing the need to develop a civic sense, he urged upon the denizens to take greater responsibility for proper waste-disposal.
Kire thanked the power department for taking necessary step to install two power transformers in the colony and hoped that such development will immensely benefit the community.
Stating that the present team of the Midland Council will give its top priority towards community’s welfare and progress, he sought the support and cooperation from the residents and well wishers for meeting the various challenges ahead.
Further, he requested the residents to put forward a constructive idea and suggestion towards the common good and aspiration of the colony.
Also speaking on the occasion, Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) councilor Kekhrieselhou Metha called upon the Midland community to maintain unity and collectively work for the welfare and all round development of the Colony.
“We can achieve anything if we stay united,” he said.
He also called upon the community to help each other and maintain cordial relationships for a healthy and prosperous society.
Neikhonyü Sote, Head GB, also spoke on behalf of GBs and urged upon the residents to uphold the principle of unity and peaceful coexistence. He said that Wezulhi and Reikielie Metha were the first chairman and secretary respectively of the Midland Council.
Padma Shri Neidonuo Angami, former president of Naga Mother's Association (NMA) also exhorted the gathering.
Meanwhile, the Midland Council has honoured three GBs- Neithonyü Sote (Lower Sector), Khriekedou (Middle Sector) and Obed Kent (Upper Sector) in recognition of their invaluable service and contributions rendered to the Midland community.
Acknowledgment to the dignitaries was made by Midland Women Organization president Nino Zhasa.
The programme was chaired by Khrielezo Vitsu, vice chairman Midland council while Liba Hopeson, Pastor, Poumai Baptist Church Kohima invoked God’s blessings.
Midland Council General Secretary Thejazelie Tase delivered welcome addressed while Megono Tase presented a special number. Vote of thanks was proposed by Midland Council property secretary Khoto Ngukha.
