Kohima: DWSM deliberates on JJM implementation

Kohima, November 15 (MExN): The Kohima District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM) reviewed the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the district on November 15.

According to a report from the state DIPR, Kohima Deputy Commissioner Gregory Thejawelie who chaired the meeting, said that the main objective of the Mission was to monitor and keep track of the JJM which is implemented by the PHED and RD department. JJM is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connection by 2024 to all households in rural areas and was launched by Prime Minister on August 15, 2019.

On the status of JJM implementation in government and private schools, the release stated that 57 percent coverage has been completed in seven blocks of the district. In this regard, the DC asked the CMO and DEO Kohima to cross check the availability of the facilities so as to ensure that regular drinking water is available in the schools and centres.

On JJM Village under 2020-21 fiscal year, where 80 percent of the civil works have been reportedly completed in 45 villages, the DC underscored that the remaining works should be completed within the given time period. He asked the concerned departmental officials to ensure that quality works are carried out while implementing the scheme. He also requested the third party responsible for checking the quality of work, to be sincere and to reflect the actual work in their report. 

Executive Engineer PHED, Kohima Urban Division, Subongyanger gave a PowerPoint presentation on JJM mission and its strategy and informed that under Kohima Urban Division, six villages including BSF Keyakie would be covered under the scheme. He also presented on the JJM components, steps followed for JJM implementation, village, district and state action plan, Implementation Support Agencies (ISA), as well as monitoring and evaluation.

District Coordinator for Kohima Division Ashale Seb also presented on JJM under rural division, where she stated that seven villages have been covered under 'Har Ghar Jal' village. She also informed that besides the 1st phase of JJM 2020-21 with 45 villages, another 45 villages have been listed in the 2nd phase for the implementation of the scheme for the year 2021-22. Status on Anganwadi centers, water testing through FTK test at village level and lab test reports were also presented, the DIPR report stated
