Kohima, November 20 (MExN): Kohima Excise personnel manning the Excise Check gate at Peducha under seized about 400 grams of suspected heroin from a Maruti Ecco vehicle on November 19. According to officials, the seized items were worth 45 lakh.
One Kaisu Lokho (46) was arrested in this connection and a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, a press release from the Assistant Commissioner of Excise (Zonal) Kohima informed on Saturday.
As per the release, the Excise duty party while conducting normal checking signalled for the vehicle to stop but it sped away towards Dimapur. A hot pursuit ensued, following which the vehicle was stopped and searched by a team led by Assistant Inspector of Excise Imtiakum Imchen, head constables Chingmak, Seyiekholie, Constables Penshak, Aonseng, Kuvijupo, Diethokholie and Kevibou, the release stated.
The team recovered 400 grams of suspected heroin which were neatly packed inside 40 soap cases and concealed with a sack of vegetables. The case is under active investigation, the release stated.
