Kohima Old Age Home observes foundation day

Kohima | August 18 : The Kohima Old Age Home today celebrated its 7th foundation day here with Angami Miapfu Krotho (AMK) president Salhoutuonuo Kruse as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Kruse said the kind of sacrifices, patience, hard work and so on that the managing director and team are putting in to keep the Kohima Old Age Home going and vibrant are so much it is, “ I believe, only God’s enabling power that help you to carry on with the tasks every day.”
She believed that God will abundantly reward their work, not only in heaven but even while on earth here in the form of peace, joy, happiness and a great sense of accomplishment. Quoting “the greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion, the more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well being”. AWO president said what they (Old Age Home) are doing is certainly God want to do for mankind because He always sides with the poor, the needy, the helpless orphans and widows and the oppressed people. Stating that it is the God’s will that the inmates are in a new home on earth making new friends and experiencing an altogether different good life here, she told them that in this world no life is absolutely free from troubles and, “ you are no exception. It is actually your attitude and thinking which make your life either happy or sad.”
Extending best wishes to all inmates, she hoped that their stay will be very pleasant and that they will all have a great sense of satisfaction. She also said that she was very humbled and challenged by the good and wonderful works the Old Age Home is doing. “You have indeed started a spark- which is a spark of God’s compassion which is so precious. I want to say that we stand in full support of your good work and wish you success in all your endeavour of kind deeds to the poor, the needy and the helpless and, will be looking forward that you will keep the spark of God’s compassion and get it burn brighter and brighter in the days to come,” she added.
Also speaking on the occasion, social welfare director Khevito said Nagas have a very strong traditional family bond, parents are neglected out of many compulsive reasons, adding that parents are living in such condition due to “social transition”. He appreciated the Kohima Old Age Home while stating that this home commands huge respect and also maintained that the elderly prefer to be with their age group.
Expressing happiness that the Home is running in a commendable way and further stated that the Department has a new commitment to keep the Old Age Home alive. He said the department really wants to serve the people, especially the old aged people. A short speech was also delivered by P.S Angami, Nagaland Senior Citizens’ Forum. He told the inmates that they are blessed to have reached 70 years of age and above while noting that they must have been a hero in some way or the other during the prime of their lives. Earlier, Kohima Old Age Home managing director Neithonuo T. Liegise highlighted the activities of the home. A minute’s silence was also observed for the departed souls of the inmates.
