Kohima, April 22 (MExN): Kohima police has finally cracked the case involving a series of highway robberies committed along the NH-29 leading towards Phek district. A press release from Shouka Kakheto, SDPO Kohima & PRO, DEF Kohima informed that since January 2014, at least 6 cases of highway robbery were reported from the area involving 3 night buses, 2 private vehicles and various trucks plying along the road. A gang of six armed miscreants were reported to be involved in these incidents and ever since the Kohima police were involved in the effort to nab them.
The breakthrough, the release said, was possible with the arrest of two of the miscreants after a pre dawn raid at Mitelephe village on April 18, 2014. The arrested persons were identified as Teisovesie Rhutsu and Rokozutuo Tepa. According to the press release, the police seized 24 mobile handsets, 2 air guns and other miscellaneous items from their possession. In a continued raid the next day, another two mobile handsets, one air gun and two muzzle loading guns were seized. On April 22, family members, village elders and frontal organizations produced before the police the four absconding persons along with a laptop and 11 mobile handsets. They were identified as Khriesangulie Shunyü, Kevilelhou Shunyü, Zedulhou Tepa, and Mezazetuo Zepfü-e. The release noted that the six arrested miscreants included two pairs of brothers.
The Kohima police has expressed its profound gratitude to the family members, village elders, Southern Angami Youth Organization, Angami Youth Organization, Angami Public Organization and others who helped the police to ensure all the miscreants involved were arrested in the interest of upholding the law of the land. At the same time, it has appealed to all the victims of the robbery incidents to report to the North Police Station, Kohima and record their statements and also identify their looted properties.
Meanwhile, the release informed that Kohima police personnel manning Khuzama check gate seized approximately 20 kgs of contraband ganja from a bus bearing Regd. No. MN-04-A-2353 bound for Guwahati on April 16. Again on April 18, approximately 150 kgs of contraband ganja was seized from an inbound Bolero Vehicle bearing Regd. No. MN-05-A-0401 from the possession of KA Candid Sorei of Ukhrul district, Manipur.
On April 21, personnel stationed at Phesama check post also arrested two persons identified as Neiphrezolie and Vilievizo Keditsu. The persons along with two others, travelling in an Alto vehicle bearing Regd.No. NL-01-H-6589 were involved in intercepting a Tata Mobile at Mohonkhola area in the wee hours and snatching the cell phone of the driver, the note stated. Later, one of the other two persons absconding was arrested and was identified as Maisi Newmai of Tamenlong district, Manipur.
Further, on April 22, one person identified as Jackson Raising of Senapati district, Manipur was arrested while he was proceeding towards Manipur with a Tata Mobile stolen from New Market area Kohima. Two other accomplices involved in the crime are absconding and efforts are under way to nab them, the note added.
