Kohima rally expresses solidarity with Anna Hazare

A rally, expressing solidarity to Anna Hazare’s on ongoing agitation against corruption was staged here this evening, organized by Anna Hazare Support Committee, Kohima. Among the many placards at the rally included “Fight against corruption” “With corruption, everyone pays,” “Corruption: eating away from the inside out,” “Anti- corruption Initiatives from you.”
After a public meeting and torch rally from SP Point, a memorandum in support of a strong Jan Lokpal Bill, addressed to President of India, was submitted to Nagaland’s Governor Nikhil Kumar at Raj Bhavan.
The memorandum said the crusade started by social activist Anna Hazare to eradicate corruption from this country has stirred the entire nation, adding that the entire system of the country has been paralyzed starting from the top to bottom due to the loopholes in the style of governance.
“As a result, the common people of our country are the worst sufferers. The peaceful agitation staged by Anna Hazare has rocked the entire nation, even up to remote places in the north east region like Kohima,” the memorandum, said.
The memorandum stated that the citizens of Kohima have also realized that “it is our bounden responsibility to express our solidarity in this fight against corruption.” The memorandum appealed to President of India to intervene in this matter “as the democratic rights of the citizen of the country are scuttled by vested interest political parties by suppressing the right to expression on the pretext of preventive arrests as in the case of Gandhian Anna Hazare.”
“This action by the government of the day has backfired as the mood of the entire nation has been sparked and the spontaneous response is an indication that a strong “Jan Lokpal Bill” is the need of the hour,” said the memorandum assigned by Jagdamba Mall and Santu Thapa, president and general secretary respectively of Anna Hazare Support Committee, Kohima. Earlier, salient features of Jan Lokpal Bill was read out by Sera Chetri at the public meeting. The meeting also witnessed shouting slogan like “We stand for Lokpal Bill,” Long Live Anna Hazare” etc. etc.
Meanwhile, the Dimapur based Co-ordination Committee of Civil Society led by R.K.Nair, Alok Parik and Smt Devika Roy today submitted a memorandum supporting Anna Hazare and his Jan Lokpal Bill to President of India through DC, Dimapur at her officer chamber. This was informed by R.K.Nair President of Co ordination committee.
