Jotsoma, April 22 (MExN): The Department of Geography, in collaboration with the Green Team, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma observed World Earth Day on April 22 under the theme ‘Planet vs. Plastic’ reaffirming their commitment to combating plastic pollution and promoting environmental sustainability.

Under the guidance of Chairperson TK Medoweu, Asst Professor, the event commenced with an invocation by Kezhadi Leno, Assistant Professor followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Dr Sakhoveyi Lohe, Associate Professor.

Green Initiative leader Shevito Theyo, Assistant Professor, in the introductory remark highlighted importance of observing such an event and urged the students to be individually and collectively responsible to preserve the beauty of nature. 

The keynote address by HOD, Rongdensungla Longkumer provided insights into the detrimental effects of plastic on the environment and highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable alternatives.

Students participated in activities led by Selie Puro and Dr Zakali Ayemi. They transformed waste paper into reusable items such as paper bags, showcasing innovative approaches to sustainability.

Kohima Science College, Vice Principal R Moasangla Jamir shared insights on the significance of adopting sustainable practices in our daily lives.
