‘Kohima Street Carnival’ transforming city with colours of music and arts

Kohima, September 29 (MExN): The Kohima Smart City in collaboration with Kohima Municipal Council and other government departments, local music and fitness institutes, and citizen based organizations is organizing the ‘Kohima Street Carnival’ from September 29 to October 2 along New NST to Razhu Point, Kohima.

Launching the event on Wednesday, a DIPR report stated that Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr Nicky Kire stated that Smart cities have been advised to undertake a 75 Hour Urban Transformation implementing event with the objective of reimagining public spaces in their cities and impacting the citizens, he also mentioned that Kohima has been performing well in many areas under Smart Cities and called upon every individual to come forward and participate in the changes and Set an good example to the rest of the other cities in the country. Kire congratulated the officers and staff of Kohima smart city for their tireless efforts in bringing about the transformations in the city.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav (AKAM) is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements where Smart Cities Mission (SCM) under the ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has planned numerous events across 100 Smart Cities as part of 75 weeks of celebrations.

Joint CEO, Kohima Smart City Development Limited, Avelu Ruho said that the physical place making transformation has been intended to be lighter, quicker and cost effective public space tactical intervention that would be implemented in a trial mode before making it a permanent sustainable solution for future which would be undertaken with support from many stakeholders and citizens as possible in both planning and execution of projects.

Adding that after completion of the place making within 75 hours, Cities are advised to organize public events, keeping in mind Covid appropriate behavior. She expressed hope that this celebration would pave the way for positive changes in Urban Planning, in the mindset of the people and attitudes of every citizen, resulting in carrying out the healthy and happy spaces not only in Public spaces but in all nook and corner of the city. 

Ruho also informed that Kohima Smart City in collaboration  with Government Stakeholders and citizen based organizations is organising the Kohima Street Carnival starting from September 29 to October 2 covering an array of events targeting all groups of citizenry on the following dates including Fitness Reloaded: zumba, taekwondo, painting competition, botanical extravaganza (flower exhibition and sale) on September 30; Street Food Festival and Musical Fair (Busking) and Blood Donation Camp on October 1; Cyclothon and Walkathon, Open Street Children Carnival and Street food festival and musical fair (Busking) on October 2; Street Health Clinic For Senior Citizens BP and Weight Measurement  from September 30 to October 2.

After the launching of AKAM event, Nagaland Piano Festival, street solo dance competition, was also held with more than 40 Piano performers, singers, string quartet, Art space and community dancing in collaboration with Kohima Smart City, organized by Brillante. The first of a series of events that will culminate in the virtual piano festival have been scheduled from November 19 to 21.

The event was organized by Kohima Smart city in collaboration with TaFMA, KMC and Brillante. Welcome address was delivered by Chief Executive Officer, KSCD (Piano Overture) Er K Theunuo.
