DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 13 (MExN): As the Konyak community’s seven days mourning for the victims of the Oting killings concluded on December 13, the Konyak Union (KU), Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) and the Konyak Students Union (KSU) issued a list of directives for all concerned to adhere to.
In accordance with the declaration made on December 7, the organisations said they would not withdraw its non cooperation move served against the Indian military forces until its charter of demand is fulfilled. Instead, the Konyak CSOs issued “strict non cooperation regulation” for strict adherence by all within its customary dominion.
They said that “total restriction on Indian military force convoy and patrolling within Konyak soil shall continue until justice is delivered to those 14 innocent Konyak youths.” The organizations restricted any recruitment rally within Mon District, and directed Konyak youths not to participate in any recruitment rally.
They further directed all customary land owners to immediately “denounce the past land agreement allotted for setting up military base camps (operating points) within its respective jurisdiction (Naginimora, Tizit, Lampong Sheanghah, Wakching Town, Mon Town, Longshen Town, Sheanghah Wamsa, Longwa, Chenmoho, Chenloishu, Wangti, Aboi, Angjangyang, Tobu & Monyakshu).”
Further, the Konyak CSOs called for cutting off all forms of public relation with Indian military forces, and directed that no Konyak villages councils/students or any society should accept any form of developmental packages from the Indian military forces; and must immediately denounce any form of assured packages/soups from them (if any).
Under the banner of the Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (KBBB), the mourning came to an end with candle light service and prayers across the entire district.
They informed that the agitation would continue in various forms, with the first phase to begin on December 16 in the form of a public rally all over Mon district. The Konyak CSOs also stated that as a sign of resentment, black flags would be put up on every vehicle and black badges would be worn by all.
Meanwhile, the Konyak CSOs urged its citizens to refrain/abstain from any form of merry making activities such as night bazaars, open picnic and other entertainment activities within Mon district. However, pre-scheduled programme such as weddings, church events, may be exempted.
Another demand made was to activate the Tiru police station within 5 days. “The tragic incident which unfolded at Tiru valley is due to non functional of the proposed police station which could have been avoided,” they stated.
The organizations further appealed to the State Government to take complete responsibility to ensure the speedy recovery of the two witnesses who are currently undergoing treatment at Dibrugarh Medical College. The two survivors are the living witness hence, their medical treatment, their safety and their recovery must be well taken up by the State Government, they said.
The Konyak CSOs also directed the Oting Village Council to “denounce” the “Commendable Certificate” awarded to the village by the Government of India in 1958 for “assisting the Government of India in maintaining peace in the region.”
“The very trust that was built over decades is totally shuttered today and the intention of the Indian armed forces is well known,” they stated.
