Kruse urges Naga youth to reach full potential

Citing the various challenges which are confronting the society today, the youth are advised to strive to reach its full potential and make a difference in the growth and development of the society.

This call was made by Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse at the golden jubilee celebration of the New Market Youth Organisation (NMYO) Kohima under the theme 'Retrospect the past celebrate the present welcome the future' this afternoon.

Speaking as the special guest Kruse cited unemployment, idleness, religion without practice, and disunity among others which are confronting the people of the state today. And the youth as the present, future and backbone of the society holds within them the power to shape the destiny of the future.

She appreciated NMYO that over the past 50 years, it has been a platform for youth to discover their potential, hone their skills and contribute to their communities, especially in the field of games and sports, literary activities, art and music etc.

These activities, she pointed could not be achieved without the unity and support of each and every member of the colony. 

Nonetheless, Kruse said the Golden Jubilee celebration is an opportunity for  the youth, to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future to be changemakers of the society.

The Minister also acknowledged the pioneers, elders and parents of the colony for their sacrifice and raised leaders of today and the future. As the future leaders, she maintained that it is vital that the youth must be involved in politics, and take responsibilities to ensure election of leaders who have their interests at heart.

New Market (Ward 8) under Western Angami constituency, the Minister assured to give her best efforts to do whatever is possible for our constituency, especially for the youth towards skill development, entrepreneurship etc. Towards this, she solicited the confidence, trust and support to work together.

Earlier, the Minister unveiled the golden jubilee clock tower while Kuotsuwhelie Kehie, the first president of NMYO unfurled the flag.

MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso said over the years New Market from being know as the 'dirtiest' has become one of the cleanest colony in Kohima town.

The colony being a city centre of the town, he said has the potential to offer many things, and urged for more peace and unity among the residents, and assured 'we will bring change in the capital of Nagaland.'

A strong advocate against the vices of tribalism, Dr. Rhütso said tribalism is killing the Nagas and asked if people can stop tribalism.

"We are educated and matured enough to understand that tribalism is killing us" he stated adding if the educated can rise up and this stop this menace today.

He also sought the support and cooperation of the citizens towards contributing to the community to make the society better a better place to live. The MLA also released the jubilee souvenir.

Earlier, Zhabu Gwirie, Pastor UCRC New Market pronounced the innovation while Ruokuobeizo Nyusou, Chairman New Market Area Panchayat brought the greetings and special number presented by the jubilee choir.
