Dadie Medo, Rovisenuo Hibo crowned KSCJ Freshers 2026
Kohima, September 13 (MExN): The 64th Freshers' Social of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma (KSCJ), was held at the college auditorium on September 11 to welcome the incoming undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the vice-principal, who emphasised holistic student development, followed by speeches by senior and junior student representatives.
A major segment of the programme was the annual presentation of academic excellence awards, where meritorious students across various disciplines were recognised with institutional and departmental honours for their academic achievements.
The special guest, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education, Government of Nagaland, delivered a keynote address covering ancestral history, biopolitics, population data and technological transitions.
Yhome spoke about studies on Naga genetic lineage dating back to 1936 and the global shift towards digital spaces. Reflecting on regional adaptation, he observed that while local communities possess inherent talents in traditional areas such as music, balancing these skills with modern digital literacy was essential.
Citing recent initiatives in school education, he referred to a Rs 10 crore digital onboarding project with Google International and a planned partnership with IIT Delhi.
He encouraged the college faculty to integrate digital education tools into the curriculum and align with advanced classroom practices in mainland India to prepare students for leadership positions in the public and corporate sectors.
The formal programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the general secretary, followed by the College Anthem.
The informal programme featured a range of dance and musical performances by students, including solo and duet performances, musical pieces and band performances.
Artists Keneisenuo Sorhie, Sammy and the emerging band Pinkeye also performed as guest artists.
The main event of the informal programme was the selection of Mr and Ms Freshers KSCJ 2026, along with the crowning of Mr and Ms Multimedia and Mr and Ms Fashion Icon KSCJ 2026.
The judging panel comprised Ritsala Thonger, second runner-up at Miss Kohima 2023; Leiwang Wangsa, runner-up at Mr Kohima 2022; and Dr Moaakum Kichu, assistant professor in the Department of Botany, KSCJ.
The selection was conducted in three rounds -- traditional, casual and evening.
The traditional round featured participants in cultural attire, followed by a ramp walk and self-introduction. The casual round featured participants in outfits representing their individual styles, along with a ramp walk with their respective partners.
The evening round began with the announcement of Mr and Ms Multimedia 2026, which were won by Veisounii Leo and Khumjano Ngullie, respectively.
Dadie Medo and Yangerienla Longkumer were crowned Mr and Ms Fashion Icon 2026, respectively.
The top 12 participants then advanced to the question round. After the final round and judging, Dadie Medo was crowned Mr Fresher 2026 and Rovisenuo Hibo Ms Fresher 2026.
The informal programme concluded with performances by various artists and bands from KSCJ, with the event ending amid entertainment and celebrations among students.
