KSU insist on completion of Wokha-Merapani road

Dimapur, October 11 (MExN): The Kyong Students’ Union continues to insist on the completion of the long-standing controversial Wokha-Merapani road, the lifeline of the Kyong, since 2000. “The various succeeding officials of KSU did everything for the cause of Wokha district development for the success of the road and endured many complications from public meetings and hunger strike to bandh to achieve the sole goal for construction of the road,” lamented the Kyong students in a message today.

The KSU has expressed full commitment to seeing that the road is completed early ‘with quality workmanship.’ The students’ will not compromise until the road is completed as per the specifications, the union said.

An inspection of the Wokha-Merapani road by NGOs including Kyong Hoho, Kyong Students Union and PWD officials and comprehensive discussions with the constructing company officials was taken out recently. The delegations were assured of repairing the already damaged road.

The KSU said to have been acting as watchdog and have been inspecting the road frequently and even had co-ordination meetings with construction group Mohan Sing & Co. The union is insisting that “quality and workmanship in the construction be maintained at all cost.” The public is pleased with the DAN government of Nagaland for placing the Wokha-Merapani Road under the construction slot under the NEC. The “dream road” has been near completion with proper and effective supervision from various sections of society of the Kyong community.

The durability of the process of workmanship was even discussed under Wokha DPDB meeting in the month of March 2010 in the presence of the company, “thanks to the four legislators of Wokha district for the concern shown.” The KSU appreciates the concern shown by the Naga Students’ Federation particularly over the Wokha-Merapani road.
