KTC, NNC mourn demise of Lt General Pokho

Dimapur, April 11 (MExN): The Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) has mourned the demise Lt General Pokho, Retired GOC of Eastern command, Naga Army NNC/FGN and Member of National Defence Advisory Board (NDAB) who breathe his last at his native Pathso Nokeng Village on April 10.

KTC in a press release said that Pokho was “one among the many who had stood by its principles and contributed all to his abilities in Naga nation building. “ He has withstand all difficulties and rose from mere Naga Army since 25th July 1976 to Lt. General till his last breath. 

Some of his outstanding awards consist of Nagaland star, Victory Cross, Military Cross, Hero award, Military Service Medal (I, II & III) and Long Service Award. His achievement reminds the dedication and selfless sacrifices towards the path he stood for was a remarkable journey in the Naga freedom movement. His ceasing in the freedom movement shall never be forgotten and will go down in the annals of Naga books.

“May the families and countrymen find solace and peace in the lord we trust. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace,” KTC added.
In another press release, W Shapwon, Joint Secretary, NNC stated that Pokho participated in the Alee (foreign) Mission on 11 trips to China and came back home in January 1978. On 22nd March 1978, the Burma Army attacked us at Tamko village in Lainong Region, the then Pte Pakho fired 34, 60 MM Mortars on the Burma Army, and from there his ear was completely deaf. 
“That was never recovered again. He served the nation tenaciously up to his last breath and it will remain forever as his legacy to the Naga young generations to come,” he said. 

“I share my heartfelt grief and deep sorrow with his family members and relatives, and pray that the departed soul rest in peace in his eternal abode with our Lord Jesus Christ, and may God comfort the bereaved family members at this hour of sorrow,” Shapwon added.
