Kuzhami Union Kohima celebrates Tsükhenyie festival

The Kuzhami Union Kohima (KUK) today celebrated Tsükhenyie festival-cum- 8th general session with much pomp and traditional gaiety at Kisama near Kohima.

Tsükhenyie festival is celebrated by the Chakhesang tribe to mark the beginning of the sowing season and to seek blessings for bountiful harvest. People also prayed for healthy and prosperous year ahead.

Gracing the occasion as the special guest, MLA Dr Neisatuo Mero challenged the Kuzhami's to have better understanding and maintain the spirit of oneness. He also called upon the people to reason together and forges peaceful co-existence.

Sharing greetings, Veyielo Doulo, Director, Tourism Nagaland told the Kuzhami’s to take new venture through Tsiikhenyie and wished them successful journey in life. He also called upon the people to uphold the principle of unity and integrity.

The programme was chaired by KUK General Secretary Isaac Losou while Rev. Neikko Mero, senior pastor KCBCK invoked God’s blessings. KUK President Liengute Doulo delivered welcome address. Kowupe-ii Akami & friend and Leshemi Welfare Union Kohima presented folk tune.

Neilhipe Mero, convenor Nomination Committee announced KUK’s new team of office bearers for the tenure 2024-2026. Rev Khrotso Mero, former executive secretary Chakhesang Baptist Church Council pronounced act of blessings.

The new team included; President-Isaac Losou, Vice President-Kulo Tsiizuh, General Secretary-Kowe Lohe, Joint Secretary-Kewe Kapfo, Finance Secretary-Medotso Khape, Treasurer-Kekhroneite Ngachu, Social & Culture Secretary-Mewelo Kepfo, Information & Publicity Secretary- Mepa Lomi, Women Coordinators-Weleu Chirha and Kerenyiii Rabvo; Advisors-Liengute Doulo, Kewekolo Khalo, Eyiekowe K. Tara, Neilhipe Mero and Mesetsoza Wezah.

KUK Finance Secretary Weprepe Mero proposed vote of thanks while Neipehi-ii K Tara, deaconess KCBK pronounced benediction. The festival was also marked by tug of war and Tsükhenyie feast.
