DIMAPUR, JULY 26 (MExN): As a part of action plan for 100 days of KVKs, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur conducted five-day off-campus vocational training programme on “Quality Seed Production of Major Crops under Dimapur district” from July 22-26 at the Life Ministry Learning Centre in Naga United Village. This comprehensive training aimed to enhance the skills of participants in the field of seed production.
Dr Akumla Longchar, Scientist, AICRP on Kharif Crops, SAS Medziphema presented on the topics General Principles of Seed Production and Basic Agronomic Practices Essential for Quality Maize Production.
Dr Bendangla Imsong, CTO Plant Breeding conducted practical sessions on Seed Bed Preparation and other Agronomic Practices, focusing on Quality French bean and Garden pea production. She also provided valuable insights into the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmer’s Rights Authority (PPV & FRA). Dr Chingakham Sima Chanu, SMS (Home Science), led sessions on Value-added Products of Maize, Processing and Value Addition of Soybean. Marneni Divya Sree, SMS (Agricultural Extension), addressed Marketing Challenges and Opportunities in Seeds and Planting Materials, equipping participants with crucial knowledge for navigating the market landscape.
Dr Moanaro, Programme Assistant, covered Integrated Pest and Disease management for Maize, Soybean, Okra, French bean, and Garden pea. Alemla Samuel, Life Ministry Learning Centre, Naga United, facilitated a practical session on the Preparation of Vermicompost, demonstrating sustainable practices for soil enrichment.
The valedictory session, held on July 26, was graced by Bodevi Shuya, District Agricultural Officer of Chümoukedima, as the chief guest.
Shuya commended the efforts of KVK Dimapur and emphasized the importance of quality seed production in enhancing agricultural productivity. He also presented the certificates to resource persons and the trainees. Marneni Divya Sree, SMS Agril. Extension delivered a formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all speakers and participants.
Earlier, the training commenced with an ice-breaking session where participants introduced themselves, setting a collaborative tone for the days ahead. Dr Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Dimapur, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, outlining the various activities and initiatives of KVK, Dimapur.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Bendangla Imsong, CTO Plant Breeding, and featured a series of insightful sessions delivered by experts. A total of 25 participants were trained, including 15 Master Trainers and 10 students from C-Edge College.
