Kiphire, December 20 (MExN): KVK, Kiphire ICAR for NEH Region conducted training on diversified farming practices for doubling farmers’ income along with an awareness programme on the Farm Act at Nitoi, Phisami and Seyonchung village from December 15 to 17.
The resource persons for the programme were Temjenna Jamir, SMS (Agro meteorology), DAMU, KVK Kiphire, Sepila Sangtam, Area Co-ordinator, NRLM and Seroba Sangtam, HEA, DHO, Kiphire, a press release informed on Sunday.
During the training programme, Temjenna Jamir spoke on various IFS models such as livestock & crop, fishery & poultry, duckery & fishery, piggery & fishery and horticulture based farming system which can be taken up for providing assured income. She stated that the IFS system is a self generating system where the waste of one component is a resource for the other. A brief discussion was also held on the new Farm Act, 2020 with an aim to create awareness amongst the farming community.
Seroba Sangtam emphasized on taking up high value crops for obtaining higher income. Important pests of horticultural crops and its management were also thoroughly deliberated, according to the release.
Topic on value addition in important horticultural crops and nutritional garden was taken up by Sepila Sangtam, where she laid emphasis on processing fruits and vegetables for increasing income. Layout plans for nutritional garden were also deliberated where selection of crops according to their nutritional value was emphasized so as to meet the nutritional requirement of the farming family.
A short interaction session was also held after the technical session where the participants raised questions on different aspect which were satisfactorily replied. A total of 90 farmers attended the training programme.
Dr N Khumdemo Ezung, Senior Scientist and Head (I/c), KVK, Kiphire and coordinator of the training programme informed that the training programme was conducted as part of Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan-III activity to be conducted in Aspirational District.
