Phek: KVK Phek orgainsed farmer-scientist interaction programme for women SHGs at Porba village on March 24 and at Pfütsero on March 31.
On the first day of the interaction, the programme started with a lecture on Biofertilizer for organic farming by T Esther Longkumer, SMS (Soil Science) where she explained regarding the importance of biofertilizer, its method of application and recommended doses for different crops. Liza B. Bharali, SMS (Plant Protection) delivered lecture on insect-pest and disease management in vegetable crop, where she showed the different organic products and their uses in different crops. Hannah K. Asangla, SMS (Agronomy) presented lecture on importance of field crops and cropping system suitable under Phek district.
On the second day, around 56 farmers from different colonies participated in the programme. T Esther Longkumer, SMS (Soil Science) from KVK Phek explained on organic farming, steps involved in organic farming and inputs of organic farming like biofertilizer, vermicomposting, Azolla etc. Dr. Debojyoti Borkotoky SMS (Animal Science) delivered a lecture on backyard poultry production with vanaraja and gramapriya. He explained the performance traits of the birds, brooding, feeding, housing and protection against common poultry disease.
After the lecture session, there was a farmer-scientist interaction where the farmers actively participated in the discussion hour. The interaction was a two way process between the resource persons and the participants. Total 118 farmers participated in the two day interaction programme.
