Ladakh & Kerala delegates interact with Dr SC Jamir.
DIMAPUR, February 8 (MExN): A group of 44 delegates from Ladakh and Kerala, comprising students along with teachers-in-charge and faculty members of Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, interacted with veteran Nagaland statesman Dr SC Jamir on February 7.
The interaction was organised as part of the Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme, an initiative of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and the North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong. The programme aims to promote “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” by fostering national integration, cultural understanding and mutual respect. It is fully sponsored by MDoNER and NEC. Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, is hosting the visiting teams from February 1 to 14.
During the interaction, the visiting delegates raised questions on leadership qualities and lessons they could learn from Dr Jamir. Responding to the queries, he said that the first quality one should have is honesty, along with vision and mission, and commitment to that vision. He urged the students to think beyond their states and become global citizens, stating that only then would they develop a mindset that seeks broader understanding and is not confined by narrow communal and personal inhibitions.
Dr Jamir reminded the students that they are ambassadors of their respective states and said that the future of their states in particular, and the country in general, lies in their hands. He stressed the need for farsightedness and zeal to work for the greater good and development of the state and the nation. He also urged the students to maintain dignity at all times and shared his distress at witnessing unruly behaviour in Parliament.
Sonam Gytso, one of the teachers-in-charge of the Ladakh team, appreciated Dr Jamir’s reflections on honesty, vision, commitment and thinking beyond regional boundaries, stating that “the insightful interaction left the delegates enriched, motivated, and mindful of their role as ambassadors of their states and the nation”.
Echoing similar views, Dr Aju T.G., one of the teachers-in-charge of the Kerala team, said, “the interaction with Dr Jamir was an inspiring moment given his rich experience, active lifestyle and mental sharpness even as a nonagenarian. His stress on competency, adaptability, integrity, fitness, discipline, balanced living, and continuous learning, will help the delegates improve their own lives for succeeding in an every-competitive world”.
