Lamhainamdi Incident: NPF questions pace of investigation; appeals for restrain

Kohima, April 14 (MExN): Expressing its dismay over “the pace of investigation regarding the Lamhainamdi village incident,” the Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Wednesday stated that the failure of Nagaland Government to hasten the investigation “has continued to disrupt the normal life of local citizens.”

In press release from its Press Bureau, the NPF further alleged that it had “been ascertained to a degree the murders took place because of the indifference and complacency of the Government towards impending conflict brewing in the area prior to the commission of the crime.”

This included the State Government’s “reluctance and inability to act upon its own directives,” it said.

“The failure of the Nagaland Government to hasten the investigation has continued to disrupt the normal life of local citizens,” it added.

The NPF also “strongly” urged the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up for the purpose to speed up the process so that justice is "delivered and normalcy is restored at the earliest."

The Government’s lackadaisical attitude towards handling the case that instead of hammering out for solution, the situation is aggravating more, it added.

Meanwhile, the NPF further appealed the United Zeliangrong Youth Federation (UZYF) to “restrain themselves from taking the law unto their hand.”

“The party empathizes with their situation and supports your demand for justice and so not to hamper the investigation process of the law enforcing agencies,” it conveyed.

Accordingly, it called upon the UZYF to work zealously and maintain peace and tranquility so that the investigation agencies can carry forward their case smoothly.

The NPF also reiterated its earlier stand that the State Government Law Enforcing Agencies “should look into the case with utmost sincerity and book the culprits and deliver justice to the victims within a time frame period.”
