Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): One transmission tower connecting Kohima and Karong in Manipur has collapsed following a landslide while another for Dimapur and Kohima is likely to fall as well. The department of Power informed of this today. One 132 KV transmission tower connecting Kohima and Karong in Manipur has already fallen to landslide near Phesama on July 26. The collapse has affected inter-state power connectivity of the two states. The said transmission line is utilized as an alternative for power transmission whenever the regular 132 KV Dimapur-Kohima transmission line fails. Interestingly, the 132 KV Dimapur-Kohima transmission line near the Assam Rifles camp in Piphema is also in danger of collapsing and likely to collapse, the department said. “In the event of such incident taking place, the Power supply to the state capital and the rest of the state except Dimapur will be completely disrupted since the alternative transmission line connecting Kohima-Karong (Manipur) is already damaged and restoration of such transmission line normally takes a long time,” the Power department stated.
