Nagaland’s Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio today maintained that the law and order situation in the state remained largely peaceful, reflecting the dedication of the District Administration, Police and the security forces.
“There was however, an incident of an IED blast in Chümoukedima District targeting a vehicle carrying Assam Rifles personnel, resulting in the death of one personnel and grievous injury to four other personnel,” Dr Rio said in Independence Day speech at the 80th Independence Day celebration at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima.
While the State and its citizens are yearning and striving for peace, this cowardly act of attack on the security forces is condemnable and has no place in society, he said adding that those responsible need to be identified and brought to justice. The investigation of the case has been taken over by NIA, he said.
Dr Rio said that the State Police has continued to take firm action against any kind of crime throughout the state.
In the ongoing 'War on Drugs' by the Police, from January 2024 till May 2026, more than 407 NDPS cases have been registered across the state and 677 accused persons have been also arrested.
The mobility of the personnel of the Nagaland Police is going to see a significant boost with acquisition of 550 new vehicles for it through Police Modernization assistance from assistance from MHA, he said.
The newly procured vehicles were flagged off on July 27, 2026.
He said that the district administration saw a further enhancement in its institutional infrastructure with many important works undertaken and completed during the financial year 2025-26, notable being the construction and inauguration of DC Office Complex at Shamator, ADC Office Complex at Akuluto, ADC Office at Seyochung and Tamlu, SDO(C) Office at Ralan, ADC Quarter at Chozuba, Tobu and Medziphema, and EAC Quarter at Sungro.
Meanwhile, extending gratitude to the people of Nagaland for steadfastly standing shoulder to shoulder with the government on the path of development and peace, he said “Let us renew our pledge to continue working unitedly and passionately for an even more developed, self- reliant and prosperous Nagaland.”
